Common Plastic Additive Linked to Autism, ADHD
A commonly used plastic chemical known as bisphenol A (BPA) may be linked to the development of autism and ADHD in children, a new study has found. More specifically, children with ADHD or autism appear to be less efficient at BPA detoxification, leading to greater exposure.
This research comes as diagnoses of both disorders continue to increase every year. It follows up on previous studies that have found an association between exposure to environmental pollutants, including plasticizers, and a higher risk of developing ADHD or autism.
In the study, researchers divided nearly 150 children into 3 groups: those with autism, those with ADHD, and a healthy control group. They analyzed the efficiency of each participant at eliminating BPA from the body and found that those with autism were 10% less efficient and those with ADHD were 17% less efficient than the control group.
BPA was once widely used in products like plastic water bottles, plastic food packaging, and food can linings. Due to health concerns, many products are now “BPA-free,” but experts caution that BPA has largely been replaced with chemicals that may have similar effects. (For more info, see article ‘How to Avoid BPA and BPS + Why You Should’ below ↓)
Probiotic Supplements, Foods May Lower Blood Pressure
Probiotics are largely associated with gut health, but multiple studies now point to other significant health benefits. According to one research review, probiotic foods and supplements may even help lower high blood pressure, which is a major risk factor for heart disease.
The review looked at a range of studies that included a total of 2,703 participants aged 12-75. Overall, results showed that probiotics could help lower systolic blood pressure (SBP) by 3.10 to 5.04 mmHg and diastolic blood pressure (DBP) by 0.39 to 3.84 mmHg.
Researchers found that the greatest effects were seen in adults who started their study with high blood pressure (hypertension). Fermented dairy products, Asian-style fermented products, and higher dose probiotics with multiple species were the most beneficial for blood pressure.
In addition to the above findings, another recent animal study pinpointed two specific probiotic strains – Bifidobacterium lactis and Lactobacillus rhamnosus – as having the potential to help return high blood pressure to normal levels, although this is not yet confirmed in human trials.

Curb Cravings & Restore Your Energy the Easy Way
What if boosting your energy, improving your mood, and supporting healthy metabolism was as simple as drinking a cup of cocoa?
That might sound like wishful thinking, and it would be if you were to drink a standard sugar-laden beverage made with chemically-processed cocoa that’s been stripped of nutrients. However, pure cacao (the raw, “alive” form of cocoa) has numerous health benefits that would fill several pages. It contains potent antioxidants that fight inflammation and is a natural source of anandamide, a feel-good compound known as “the bliss molecule.” That’s why Earth Echo made pure, ceremonial-grade cacao the base of their indulgent Cacao Bliss superfood drink, which also contains turmeric for more inflammation-fighting power, MCT oil to curb food cravings, and cinnamon to support healthy blood sugar levels. It’s truly a “chocolate elixir” you can enjoy with ZERO guilt.

Top 25 Magnesium-Rich Foods + Key Health Benefits
Magnesium is an essential mineral involved in over 300 processes within your body. Unfortunately, many Amercians fall short on this key nutrient, but you can avoid being one of them by eating a variety of nuts and seeds – particularly almonds and pumpkin seeds – legumes, and whole grains. Leafy greens like spinach and swiss chard are also rich in magnesium, while cocoa powder (or dark chocolate) is one of the tastiest sources. (More)
Green Spaces Protect Your Cells, May Slow Aging
It’s no secret that spending time in nature is good for your health, and some new research now shows that neighborhood green spaces could have protective effects at the cellular level. People who lived in a location with more green space had longer telomeres, which are sections of repetitive DNA that help protect chromosomes from damage. Telomeres are thought to be important markers of biological age with longer telomeres indicating better aging. (More)
Fertility Treatments Linked to Increased Risk of Birth Defects
Using assisted reproductive technology (ART) to conceive is becoming increasingly common as infertility now affects an estimated 1 in 6 couples worldwide. Some recent research has shown that using ART may be linked to an increased risk of birth defects in the child, although it’s unclear whether this stems from the fertility treatment itself or from the underlying infertility issues. The overall risk increase found in the study was relatively small. (More)
Resistant Potato Starch Could Help Bone Marrow Transplant Patients
Graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) is a major and potentially deadly complication that develops in up to half of all bone marrow transplant patients. Previous studies have indicated that high levels of butyrate, a compound produced by intestinal bacteria, may help reduce the severity of GVHD. A recent small study built on this research by finding that a potato starch supplement successfully increased levels of butyrate in patients due to its indigestible, gut-feeding nature. A follow-up study is underway to see if the supplement makes a difference to GVHD rates. (More)
How Sleep Loss & Procrastination Are Linked + 4 Tips to Break the Cycle
You might not think that there would be a link between sleep troubles and procrastination, but in certain cases, they make up a vicious loop where your to-do list makes it hard to sleep and sleep loss makes it hard to get things done. To break the cycle, commit to habits like building a calming bedtime ritual, writing your goals or to-do list down each night to get it all out of your head, and avoiding bedtime procrastination – like “doomscrolling” until 4 a.m. (More)

Every square inch of your skin contains about 19 million skin cells. This includes around 60,000 melanocytes, which are cells that produce melanin, the pigment that gives skin its color. In people with albinism, melanocytes can’t properly synthesize or distribute melanin.
